Hello, I am Mr.Feng. You can call me Feng.
I’m from Chengdu, China, the city that’s famous for being full of panda elements everywhere.
I work a typical 9 to 5 full-time job in NDT inspection, a field that has nothing to do with the internet. I do this job for one simple reason: to earn money and support myself and my family. By the way, I’m married, have a happy family, and a 15 year old son.
As the global economy continues to slow down, especially after the pandemic, making money has become harder than ever. One thing I’m absolutely sure of is this: relying solely on this job will never give me real security. One day, I could lose this job and all of my income, and I cannot let that happen.
Finding My Direction
Finding your direction without anyone guiding you is not easy.
My day job is in a very traditional industry, and the ceiling for personal growth is extremely low. If I wanted to make more money in that field, I would need to invest a huge amount of capital. That was impossible for me.
In 2020, the world went into lockdown. I was stuck at home with nothing to do except play games and browse the internet. That period changed everything. I discovered digital marketing and suddenly felt like I had found a new direction in life.
Back then, I tried sourcing products from AliExpress and built a small Shopify store to sell AirPods cases. I had no idea how to get traffic. The only thing I knew was to run Google Ads or Facebook Ads. Somehow I got a few sales. I shipped from China to the US, and I was so excited. Of course, after subtracting ad costs, I didn’t make any profit. I actually lost money. But it felt like I had finally found a side path that might work for me outside my full-time job.
For the first time, I wasn’t wandering around like a headless chicken.
Failing Again and Again
After I stepped into digital marketing, I worked during the day and studied at night. I had no teacher, no mentor, no “guru” helping me. Everything I learned came from online tutorials. I ran into all kinds of “get-rich” instructors selling dreams.
I didn’t make money quickly. Instead, I spent a lot of money and collected a long list of lessons. Some tutorials weren’t completely useless, but many of them were already outdated. Maybe if I had done those methods years earlier, they would have worked.
I realized something painful. Even though I was in the digital marketing world, my actual skills were at least five to ten years behind what the mainstream marketers were doing.
Life Is About Trying and Failing
Over these years, I’ve tried everything in digital marketing.
SEO, CPA marketing, affiliate marketing, social media marketing… you name it, I’ve probably tried it.
But my full-time job takes most of my energy. I can’t quit it yet, and the workload is heavy, messy, and often eats into my personal time.
That means digital marketing is something I can only study and test during whatever free time I have left. Meanwhile, countless articles and tutorials have misled beginners like me. They waste your time, they waste your money, and worst of all, they crush your confidence.
Yes, I Did Make Passive Income
After hearing all this, you might wonder if I ever made any money in the past five years.
Honestly, yes. I did make money, enough to cover everything I spent on learning. I put all my earnings back into more testing and studying.
I used some “BB” black-hat methods that earned me passive income. Money came in every month. I won’t share the details, but I can tell you this, it’s a cat-and-mouse game. It doesn’t last. It’s not something that can support me long term or help me quit my job.
The Real Truth About Digital Marketing
The deeper you go into this industry, the more you realize one thing.
If you want to make money in digital marketing, never trust those tutorials online.
I always joke about those “experts” you see on X or YouTube. They claim they made money and then act like they’re helping you by teaching you their methods for free. What kindhearted teachers they are.
If you really want to make money, you must test things yourself.
You must experiment.
That’s the only way you’ll earn money before the crowd notices.
Why I Want to Document and Share
I’m not an expert, and I’m not able to make a living from digital marketing yet. I’m just a beginner who has been quietly learning, practicing, and testing after work for the past five years.
To be honest, I’ve been misled many times and taken plenty of wrong turns. I wasted a lot of time building content farms instead of working on projects that could actually grow long-term and generate real returns.
Now AI is everywhere in digital marketing, and the industry is changing far more dramatically than it did a few years ago. Things move fast, and there’s an overwhelming amount of information every single day. After work, even when I’m exhausted, I still have to push myself to study and research digital marketing.
I want to build a blog to document and share my learning process. By testing and building in public, I feel a sense of responsibility that forces me to stay consistent. That’s why I want this blog to share the entire journey, with transparent data along the way.
